GoDaddy Domain Purchase And Redirection

This is a TUTORIAL on how setup the GoDaddy domain with our system.''

GoDaddy is a Domain Provider which is used by many clients to purchase and manage Internet Domain Names. To purchase a domain name from GoDaddy, go to their website: www.godaddy.com and select your preference. GoDaddy has stated the directions on buying domains on their website.

Redirecting GoDaddy Domains To Your Site

  • The idea behind this is that when your Domain Name is typed in as a URL to a web browser, the browser will then display your website.
  • This is prettier than the basic URL you might otherwise use and might be desirable for corporate image reasons.
  • Immediately after purchasing a Domain Name, there is no functionality in place to connect that Domain Name to your site.
  • Upon initial setup, your site URL will be: ####.sysaps.com, where "####" is your 4 digit client number with our system.
  • You need to know your client number to proceed with this redirection. Contact INS Support if you need assistance.

Note: The steps written below might be different if GoDaddy updates their account management interface before this manual is updated. Please check the help pages on GoDaddy if these directions don't match; the main point is to enter your ####.sysyaps.com URL for redirection.
  • Step 1: Log into www.godaddy.com with your GoDaddy account details. Then go to My Account > Domain Management.
  • Step 2: Navigate to your domain link and click on the same, i.e. the underlined name represented as a link.
  • Step 3: Now you should be on the Domain Details Screen. Click on the Forward > Forward Domain link at the top of the screen:
  • Step 4: This should show the Forwarding and Masking window. Enter the site URL in the forwarding field.
    • This is likely to be the main site ####.sysaps.com in the case of a redirected company URL.
    • This is likely to be the replicated member site ####.sysaps.com/myname in the case of a redirected member's URL (such as www.myname.com).

Note: Do not use masking

  • Masking will interfere with the system and cause problems. It will keep the URL you used to hit the site with in the browser URL bar, regardless of what the site would normally show there. For example, when using the GoDaddy URL, "Batmantis.info" it will display "Batmantis.info" in the browser bar regardless of what site it redirects to.

  • It is not a good idea to mask like this (members might like it for promotional purposes and sometimes try to have "www.myname.com" redirect to ####.sysaps.com/myname with masking, so it will always looks like "www.myname.com" for appearance). THIS WILL BREAK THE SITE.

  • When using such areas as the shopping cart checkout, masking will interfere and prevent functionality. Having members who use masked redirection, so their own URL always shows instead of your site URL may cause a legal headache for the site, as this can be confusing to customers.

What INS Needs to Complete the Process

You need to provide the Domain Name to INS for full redirection functionality to be available. The additional setup needs to be done at INS' end.

If simply setting up GoDaddy redirection to your site, you may be able to type in www."yourdomainname".com and get your site's front page to load, but more complex URLs such was www."yourdomainname.com/members will not be recognized until INS has completed the setup for you at the back end.
